HANDS
“The hand is a leitmotif in the creation of
Marie-Claire de Filippi, mostly submissive
to metamorphoses that are similar to those
of the human forms mentioned above.
Two works reach an extraordinary intensity:
The wave whose roll is in the hand and whose crest
becomes fingers, innumerable fingers from which the foam flows …
And then this fantastic naiad with wave-like hair,
bent over herself, one arm folded over her chest passing
on the opposite shoulder, and the hand, the hand of that arm, giant,
huge, enveloping the whole back to protect it!
These hands, man’s own, you might say,
those hands which, in anthropological sources, distinguish
man from other species.
These creative hands through which he passes his thoughts
in the material, which is the very art of the sculptor.
